Barnehurst is in DA7, the same postcode as most of Bexleyheath, and sits one station east on the Bexleyheath Line. We are up there most weeks. Prices do not change for the trip: a two bed tenancy clean is £243, a single oven £77 and a bedroom carpet £36, while a weekly cleaner costs £23 an hour.
Roads that bend round the golf club
Barnehurst was built out in the same interwar wave as the rest of the town, but it was laid out around Barnehurst Golf Club, so many of the roads curve round the course instead of running straight. The houses are familiar ground for us. Three bed semis with a bay window, pebbledash or a mock-Tudor gable, one staircase and a small landing. We can quote most of them in a couple of minutes on the phone.
Houses backing onto the course tend to have longer gardens than those near the Broadway. More garden means more soil walked in, and a hall carpet that turns grey rather than stained. Our carpet cleaning lifts that well, from £36 a bedroom and £41 for the flight.
Drives, and an early start
Most homes here have a drive, so the van pulls up right outside and unloading takes a minute.
Plenty of people on these roads catch the train into town from Barnehurst station, and a street is often quiet by half past eight. That suits an 8am start on a tenancy clean. The kitchen is done before lunch and we are gone before anyone comes home to find a van outside.
The work we get here
Tenancy cleans come first, though they arrive gradually rather than in a rush, because tenants here tend to stay for years. This is the scale for the move-out clean:
| Property | Price |
|---|---|
| Studio | £156 |
| 1 bedroom | £207 |
| 2 bedrooms | £243 |
| 3 bedrooms | £339 |
| 4 bedrooms | £425 |
After that it is regular housekeeping, often a fixed weekday slot for someone who has lived in the same house for decades, at £23 an hour weekly or £24 fortnightly, never for less than three hours. We try to keep the same cleaner on each house. Oven bookings pick up in the weeks before Christmas (a single oven is £77). Carpets tend to go in during spring, once the fires stop being lit and the windows start being opened.
Limescale
Barnehurst shares the borough’s hard water, and it shows. Kettles fur up, shower screens cloud over within a couple of years, and bath taps lose their shine long before they wear out. Descaling is part of a tenancy clean and of a deep clean, and it never appears on the bill as an extra.
Booking
Phone 020 8077 2940, any day from 8am to 7pm. We often pair Barnehurst with Northumberland Heath to the north, so if you are somewhere between the two we will almost certainly cover you. Everything else we charge is on the price list.
Questions we get asked
What postcode is Barnehurst?
DA7, like most of Bexleyheath. The station is one stop east of Bexleyheath on the same line, and nobody locally fusses much about where one ends and the other begins.
Are Barnehurst prices the same as Bexleyheath’s?
Yes, exactly: from £156 for a studio tenancy clean, £77 for a single oven, £36 per carpeted bedroom and £23 an hour for a weekly cleaner.
What does a tenancy clean cost in Barnehurst?
It is worked out from the bedrooms. A one bed is £207 and a two bed £243. The oven is an add-on at £31, and carpets are extra too, at the move-out rates of £29 per bedroom and £35 for the stairs.
How early can you start?
From 8am. Plenty of Barnehurst streets are quiet by half past eight once the station commuters have gone, which suits a tenancy clean that wants the whole day.
Do you work at weekends?
Yes, at the same prices. Weekday mornings in Barnehurst are our busiest time, so a weekend slot can be easier to get at short notice.
You can also ring 020 8077 2940, any day from 8am.
